Volcanic Mt. Ontake

Mt. Ontake is an active volcano and the Japan Meteorological Agency continuously monitors the mountain for changes. “Potential for increased activity” simply means it’s an active volcano, so conditions could change. The current alert level is 1, the lowest, with no climbing restrictions. The trail to the summit from Tanohara is open until October 15.
